Is it weird to just order a water at the bar?

I was bar hopping and I already had enough drinks as it is so I went to another bar but didnt order any other drink. I just asked for a glass of water and people were bothering me saying: "AHHHH COME ON DAMMIT! GET A DRINK!! WHY ARE YOU GETTING WATER? THATS LAME!" And I told them: "Jez I already drank enough at the other bar." and they didnt believe me and kept pressuring me into drinking and accused me of loitering. Is this weird to just get a water and sober up with hanging at the bar but not buy anything?
 
It is not unusual. It's called a designated driver and I certainly hope this is a regular thing. However, drunk people like to hang out with other drunk people. They are under the impression that you aren't having fun or they might look like a fool if you're not drinking with them. Hopefully, it wasn't the bartender saying these things to you.
