Is it weird that I am not celebrating my 18th birthday?

I never celebrated my 16th either. I don't recall celebrating any of my other "-teen" birthdays. I don't get presents for my birthdays, no partys, no family gatherings, no nothing-I don't even get a cake. I don't celebrate my graduations either. I am an only child and my parents still don't celebrate my birthday. Its like a pointless day that feels worse than a regular day.

Is this out of your own choice or your parents' choice? Is there a religious reason? (I only ask because a co-worker of mine is Jevhovah's Witness, and she doesn't celebrate ANYTHING.)

I don't think it's so weird, per se. I haven't really enjoyed celebrating my birthdays since I turned 16 or so. (Except my 21st, that was fun - just me and my best friend on the beach with a 6-pack of Coronas, what could be better?) I also didn't go to my own high school graduation.

If this is YOUR choice, then I would say no, it's not all that weird. It's all in your own preference. However, if it's because your family refuses to celebrate with you (without the religious reasons), then I would say that yes, that's a bit odd, and worrisome, in my opinion.

As long as you are happy with yourself, then don't worry about it. And if their not celebrating upsets you, then have a celebration with your own friends - heck, you're turning 18, you have every right to make that decision for yourself!

Whatever you choose, I hope you have a very nice birthday, and many happy returns!

It's definitely unusual, but not weird, not everyone likes parties. But if you do want a party just let your parents know, I'm sure they'd be fine with it.
