Is it unusual for a male teenager to be studying during the summer holidays?

In Australia, all students are having their summer holidays. There are 44 days until school begins again. Would it be unusual to see a teenager borrowing school books at the library during the summer holidays to study?

In years 10, 11 and 12, is it actually necessary to study during all holidays (including the summer holidays)? Why?
