Is it true that tropical fish are bigger in Indonesia then australia?

My dad told me that in Indonesia, because the country is hotter the fish seems to grow bigger than in our cold-warm Australian climates. If that is the case, what affects the growth of the tropical fish and Does the climate have anything to do with the growth aswell?
