Is it true that restaurants in the US throw away eatable clean food everyday?

My brother in law just visited there and he tells me that they throw away so much of neat and clean food, it's a shame coz i dont think they have seen people die from hunger we have people around us who die because of hunger, because there is a drought and government fail to ...
ahh they always fail .. anyways why dont they donate this food somewhere .. just pack it and give it for free to people who need them ..
