But I was reading about the US system, and apparently you can be forced into bankruptcy by medical bills for treatment that you didn't even request - like being taken to a hospital after an auto wreck?

If some hospital official tried to bill me for something like that, he'd be dealing with the business end of a shotgun! But I guess Americans have lost the will to stand up and fight for themselves?
