I have heard that the sun has entered a more stormy phase and that magnetic storms await us, however, I have just received via email an article stating that in 2013 this will reach a new level and that all electric generators and electric devices and communication systems will all die; all in all, that it will be devastating for the earth. This sounds a bit contrived to me and I don't know if it's real or not.
