I've always wanted to run a business, I hate working for people and being pressured by supervisors. I've told my parents I wish to go to U of T for Economics or some sort of business management course. What I got in return was something I was not prepared for.
My mother started to babble about how she has friends who have sons and daughters that graduated with a business degree and are unable to find a job. It's been months since they even were recommended. My mom keeps telling me I should stick with my previous choice and study Computer Science at University of Waterloo. She kept repeating that UofT is a brainwash, it's ridiculously hard and that people from other countries go there because it's well, the big and bad Toronto!
Now don't worry, being 16, I don't normally listen to my mom. My dad on the other hand, who is much more wiser suggested I should take a business course over computer science. I'll be interacting with people, develop a health social life, unlike being a computer engineer and sitting all day in front of the computer writing code all day, which pays good by the way...
I've searched it up and found out that people are agreeing to what my mom is saying... that studying business is pointless and vague. There's nothing there. It's just a certificate saying I can order people around, which almost anyone can do given a certain amount of experience. I read a book on economics and loved it. I'm interested in trades, stock market, shares and bonds and all that stuff. On the computer science side, I've already taught myself C++, which is the most used programming language to date, quite the advantage if you ask anyone who knows a thing or two about computers. Being an only child, I don't have any older siblings to question about these types of issues, so I hope Y!A could shed some light on this.
It's weird cause, people say business is a stupid major... but Trump is a billionaire, what the hell? What did he study?
I'll constantly be check this topic
