I always see signs at merchants that say "no bills over $20." Sometimes I only have a larger bill in my pocket. On the $100 bill in my hand it says "This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private." Are companies breaking the law by not allowing a sale with legal tender?
The next sub-question is more ridiculous. Can I buy an item that costs $52.75 if I only have payment in unrolled dimes, nickels, and pennies. Aren't coins legal tender too?
I have seen people try to buy items with coins and been kicked out of the store. What is the final word on this?
