is it tough to get into pre-med?/ how much do SAT scores matter compared to your grades?

so, i'm a junior in high school right now and for the past three years i have only had one interest in my future- and thats being a doctor. i want to be either a pediatric oncologist or pediatric infectious disease doctor. the thing i am a bit worried about though is my current grades. throughout highschool i honeslty just havent tried very hard at all. i know i am very well capable of getting good grades, i just never think high school matters. now i see that i have to get into a good college to go for pre-med so that i can get into med school. so my real question is, is it difficult to get accepted into pre-med? specifically like, a bio major or something. and also, would it be smart of me to apply to smaller colleges and maybe go there for a year and get my grades up then transfer to a better college?

and SAT's, if i do really well on them, can that help me get into a better college? or do your grades matter a lot more than SAT scores? thanks!

Hello... I'm not a professor or anything i just saw your question and wanted to let you know that I did have a friend that got accepted into a great university in the pre med program with below average SAT scores. She had decent grades in high school, about average and I was shocked. So If that is what you want to do I would go for it. The best advice I can give you is if this is what you want to do in life (and you are on the right path if you are thinking about it as a junior) then start working on your grades in high school and apply yourself. Don't sell yourself short. Apply to as many schools as you can and I would even call up to a university that you are intrested in and ask to speak to an academic advisor. They can most likely tell you what steps you can take to make that happen. Good luck:)
