Is it too late to apply again to a University using my high school grades?

Last year I never really took application seriously and only applied to 2 schools, 1 being notoriously hard to get into and one I thought would be a safe college for me, at least according to my counselor at the time, and in the end made it into neither.

I'm currently attending community college but am finding it VERY hard to get into ANY of my classes that I need to transfer without 'crashing', hence why I want to try applying again with my high school grades instead having the spend who knows how many years trying to get all my credits.

It's only been a few months since I graduated Senior year from high school so I was wondering is it too late to use my high school record for applications and make this out to be a sort of 'gap year'. My grades weren't actually that bad, I had an unweighted GPA at high school was 3.7 so maybe that could help?

Though also not too sure how gap years work so if anyone could explain? Do they only apply to applicants of their senior year? Etc...

I'm hoping to apply to one of the Universities of California
