Is it somehow possible to make a game run below its minimum?

i have a few games that LAG LIKE ANYTHING, and they are on lowest settings, and besides upgrading hardware and all that... is there software or an option to make modern 2010 games look OLD 2000 games? i dont care about what they look like, i just want performance... i got close to an answer - like running the game with directx6 (OLD DIRECTX) or forcing a gaming to run with PIXEL SHADER 1.1 with 3D analyzer but idunno what to do
