is it silly to try to write a novel while your an art major?

i think i was inspired from one of my lit teacher in college, who analyzed poe last quarter... and i felt so motivated that i wrote my own plot. ha.. what are my chances of getting anything published?
 
Actually artist and painters have really good vivid descriptions of things so that would help alot.
You can do anything you set your mind too.
 
Go for it.

Your major actually has nothing to do with your ability as a writer; I know English majors who suck, and biochem majors who are amazing.

Actually, my mentor-friend advised against writers majoring in English. Rather, we should go into other fields (while taking writing classes) in order to pick up more information on stuff that is useful in novels.
