Is it safe to remove the catalytic converters from a 2003 ford ranger?

The reason I ask is because I have a friend thats a mechanic and he says that the computer in new model cars could lock the vehicle down bc it will no longer pass emission tests...any advice?

Friend is right. There is a sensor on the converter plus removal will change back pressure and confuse the computer. There could be constant fuel delivery changes to the engine making it run weird.

yes it is safe and yes you will fail an emissions test if your state requires it but if not then hell to make it louder for cheap and to let cops or whoever "see" the cat just take it down cut open the top with a welder and gut it out then put it back up there. alot louder and a little more horses not much but some. and if they want to say your exhaust is too loud and look to see if you have a cat then its "there"
