Is it safe to jailbreak my ipod touch 2g MC model with IOS 4.2.1 with redsnow?

It will be my first time if i'll do it. I've watched lots of video tutorials and I'm pretty sure on what to do and the only thing I'm not sure about is its safety. I just want to be certain if my device will be okay.
