Is it Safe To Feed MY Fish?

My boyfriend recently started feeding our Betta Fish "Nigel" small minnows...is this okay? I keep thinking out fish is going to die so before I continue i was just wondering if it was okay to feed him a teenie tiny minnow once a day or something
 
Minnows will not provide the betta with all the nutrition required. Evenually he will become sick if you dont give him some foods other than minnows which he is only getting protein from.
