Is it safe to bridge my local area connection with my verizon wireless aircard?

I read on microsoft's website that you shouldn't link an internet connection and a LAN together because it creates a link on the internet to your network for anyone to be able to access. I have a wireless router, and I just enabled sharing on my verizon aircard connection. My RJ45 cable is connected to my host computer going into the port on the router you are supposed to plug your modem or DSL into. My other computers do have internet access now. What is Microsoft talking about? Is my network safe?

Thanks.
