is it risky to buy a blackberry from boost mobile that has been activated?

ok im looking for a blackberry 8330 from boost mobile,i found one on ebay but this is been activated and have a number already. i want to know if i buy the phone can i call boost mobile to change the number?? or do i have to reactivate the phone?? i dont want to get stuck with a phone that its going to give me problems. thanx
