Is it proper to send out graduation announcements when you are not planning to walk?

I am about to graduate from college. I want my family and friends to know I have graduated, so I want to send out announcements.
I am choosing to NOT walk as a personal choice, for multiple reasons, so please do not tell me I should, please respect my choice.

My question is, how do I explain that this is what is happening and gifts are not required?
