Is it possible to use gaseous bromine to test for alkenes?

I know the norm is aqueous bromine, but has gaseous bromine been used before?
Cos the question in my test was suggest a test for the presence of alkenes.
So as long as decolourization of bromine takes place, it is a possible test right?
But impractical still means possible right?

It is impractical. What you need is the change in color of the solution from reddish-brown to colorless as a positive test.
