Is it possible to place my AT&T Pay As You Go SIM Card in a Motorola Razr?

When I insert my Pay as You Go SIM in my Razr, it says Unregistered SIM, then will say Check SIM and I can't do anything. I tried cleaning the SIM and putting paper on top of it to make it make better contact with the gold things that read the SIM and it didn't work. What else can I do?
