I have a 2000 Ford F-150 4.6L V8 extended cab. I recently had my service light come on. I went to Auto Zone for a free diagnostic check. It came back as P0401, which means the egr system has unsufficient flow. I paid $400 dollars to replace the egr valve and DPFE sensor and all the little other stuff. The mechanic said it was good to go. So I drive 5 miles and the service light comes on again. I went to Auto Zone same number egr not enough flow P0401. They reset the codes to turn the service light off to see if it happens again and 30 miles later the light comes on again. I took it back to the mechanic and later he told me there was something not connected right but now it's all good. Now for my question, is it possible for a mechanic to disable my service engine light so it seems like everything is ok and I get screwed in the process thinking it's fine but really it's still messed up? Is there a way to see if they rigged up anything? I need help sooooo bad. Please, is there an honest mechanic out there to tell me the truth? Thanks so much if you reply and the 10 points will go to who I think is the most accurate at what they reply with. Thank you.
