Is it possible to make it look like you left a chat room with your friends on AIM?

Someone told me that if you go invisible while in a chat with your friends , it will say that you have left the room. I've tried this but it doesn't work. My reasons for knowing this are curiosity.
Any other way or any thoughts on the matter?
