Is it possible to influence development of the brain due to Psychosomatic beliefs?

My use of 'psychosomatic' may be incorrect. But basically mean that if you believe something. (that you are homosexual) can your brain be physically influenced by that? Please explain.

It has been discovered that the hypothalamus in gay men is smaller than that of heterosexual men.
People against homosexuality have tried to say that if you believe that that you are that way, then your hypothalamus development is influenced by that and develops accordingly. o_O Rather then that you're gay BECAUSE of the hypothalamus. To me that statement is ridiculous. To me it's of course it's in some way related to that part of the brain, as the cause.

It has also been said it has to do with conditioning as a child which to me makes absolutely no sense. How can playing with "girl toys" and participating in "girl activites" influence a boy's sexual interests? They're two very different things. Conservative people who oppose homosexuality like to say there's absolutely no evidence that it's biological, that it has to do with child abuse or lack of a "father figure" and whatever else. But there's no hard evidence to THAT. And there is to the biological theory- The hypothalamus, finger length, twin and family studies, and like myself, just the way the person looks. (Not as a rule, but often times gay men can look a little more effeminate in their features, and lesbians more masculine)

But I've strayed from my question which is, can thoughts influence physical development to that extent? Thank you.
