Is it possible to have T-Mobile 3G service on iPhone 3G?

I have been reading around that it may be possible to get 3G service from T-Mobile on the iPhone 3G by calling and talking to a T-Mobile representative and they can somehow do an over-the-air update or something with giving you the option to use it, as normally the frequencies that AT&T and T-Mobile use are "different", so to speak. But by talking to them you can some how receive the service.

Any help would be awesome.

I have a iPhone 3G with firmware 3.0, unlocked, using T-Mobile USA.
