Is It Possible To Have An Area Code From Another State For My Cellphone?

my carrier is at&t...i live in california
my cell phones area code is (909)

i would like to know if it is possible to get a new york area code,
so i would like to drop the (909) and put (212) instead

i just want to know if it is possible,
ill gladly pay for the switch if its under $40'

does anyone know for sure if this is possible???
