Is it possible to go through marine boot camp as a Lcpl?

My Friend cody is joining the marine corps and he told me that he will be a Lcpl going through boot and after MCT he will be a E-5 sgt is this actually possible or are the recruiters lying to him?

It is my understanding that Eagle Scouts and JROTC students can be considered for promotion after advanced individual training to E-3 (PFC). Doesn't mean they have to promote you. Again any other person could be considered for skipping E-2 and going straight to E-3, based on the merit of their performance. After E-3, you must apply for the promotion and pass the tests, maybe it is after E-4. Definitely any E-5 out there put some time in and learned what he needed to pass the tests.
