is it possible to get the std thrichmoniasis from somewhere other than sex?

i have been with this man for six years and last month i was told i have thrichmoniasis.i know i haven't been with anyone and he insists he hasn't either.now he had bladder cancer and went through alot of stuff like cathaders and crap.also could it have laid dormant?i want to believe him but i am finding it very hard.please help me out here..thank you
