Is it possible to get good water drop photos using a Canon 7D and a Minolta 4000AF?

The flash has full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, and MD power settings.
Combined with the 7D, what would be the best settings to freeze a droplet of water?
I'm completely new to all things flash. I tried by using continuous lights and a 1/8000th shutter speed (7D's fastest) but I still caught slight movement.
The image in my avatar was taken at 1/8000th shutter speed, I think it quite efficiently represents the best you can achieve without flash. The amount of light I was blasting on that droplet was insane as you can imagine. I also melted a lens hood.
