Is it possible to get a car that will work for $1000?

I need one for just 6 months, but I don't have a lot of money to spend on it. I don't care if its rusted all over, as long as it gets from A to B without breaking down. BTW, I've never owned a car.
 
It's possible to get a car that will work for $1000 - but it's far more likely that you'll get a car that needs work for that amount.
