is it possible to disconnect the ABS for a 96 Toyota Camry. ?

I put new brakes and rotors and the car still grabs and sometimes slides when I brake - A backyard mechanic confirmed my suspicion that it was the ABS but does not know if I can disconnect it without causing problems. A quote for 1000 to fix problem --too much $ for me.
