I'm currently renting an HD reciever but I hardly watch TV. In fact, many of the things I watch are on basic and don't really care about the quality degration with SD, it still looks ok to me. Can i change the standard HD reciever for the SD reciever with PVR? its the same cost to rent. Would I have to goto a bell world or call and they ship to me?

Well to change from a 6100 to a 5900 might not be classed as an Upgrade, which is all you can do whilst within the Rental Contract period.

In short, all you can do is call Express Vu and ask. Worst case scenario they say NO, best case scenario they say yes and you then have to pay $75 for the installation of the 5900, I know, the line is there already etc but the rules are that rented receivers MUST be installed by a professional installer.

How long do you have to run in your Contract.?

I just signed in last June. I was on rogers b4 and you can change recievers anytime, i dunno how bell deals with changing recievers cause of the contract. I would think that it would be ok, i mean, their the same cost to rent and all you gotta do is switch the recievers rite?

As I said, you can only UPGRADE during your Rental Contract, this is a new thing, until 3 or 4 months ago you were locked into the full 2 Year Term with no change of changing receivers.

All you can do is ask, just do not be surprised when they say NO......

And again, ALL Rental receiver must be installed by a Pro Installer, they will not just allow to to swap it out yourself, as there will be another Rental Contract to sign.

When you call Bell, why don`t you use your above statement to make pressure? Don`t just accept a NO without a fight! This is the main reason I never go with contract, I do not allow any company to hold me hostage and keep bargaining doors open!

Excuse me but Express Vu are not holding him hostage, his situation has changed or he made a mistake by getting the 6100, where is that Express Vu's fault...

All he can do is ask, nothing more, I doubt they will move one inch but if they do, then it will be the exception, not the rule.

If the OP is that desperate, he could go out and buy a 5900 and send back the 6100 and suffer the penalty associated with it. Option 2 is to Rent a 5900 as well, it's only another $10 a month and it might work out cheaper than handing back his 6100. He could then drop his HD programming and save $10 per month.....lol

The contract is what hold people hostage... The response you get from a company is much greather when you do not have a contract as they know you can cancell your business with them! When you do not have a contract and point out what their competitors can do for you, they tend to care a lot more about your needs and requirements! When you have a contract, yes you are held hostage, why would they care you are bound to your contract! That was my point! This is not aimed at Bell solely but all companies!

The only way you get a deal is to sign a contract. Its a two way street. Your ace in the hole is only good if you play it.

Keep people as hostage?

You signed and therefore agreed to those term and conditions...
Because you did so Bell gave you rebates for a certain periods, or months free

What you could do is return the 6100, drop the HD channels and get a 9200 and your bill will be the same...

The 9200 is considered as an upgrade to the 6100 while the 5900 is not...

Exellent idea. You'd also get 200 hours of record time, a second tuner and removable storage (at some future date).

Ex Agent, that is a great idea.

What would his charges be for installing it, if he sticks with Rental.?

Hd programing is probably free for some of the rental term but I don't think you can cancel it without repercussions.
I think your $100 activation credit is for a HD programing package.
No harm in trying.

There is no need for a contract
If you want, you can buy your own receivers, and install them on your own
Most people don't want to do this, or pay someone a few hundred $$$ to do it, so they opt for a contract, where everything is installed for free
More people should do research, before signing into any long term contract...

Buying a receiver is pretty close to having a contract. You have made a financial commitment you may as well get any perks that would come with it. A year or two is a pretty short "long term contract"

I agree haystack it is almost the same, I have made way too many comitments to Express Vu in the past, in fact the 6141 & 9242 are to ONLY receivers I do not have in my vast collection of old and newish receivers from Express Vu.

I just need a 3750, and the 2 new ones to have a full range of ALL the box's ever used by Express Vu on DHT services.....

As it was clearly an error of judgement for the OP, I wish him the best of luck but do not expect him to be succesful in changing to a 5900.

As for his charges, this is such a Gray area for installers and CSR's alike it is so variable it is crazy, I bet if you make 10 calls into Express Vu, you will get 10 different answers.....

Good Luck, let us know if they change it for you.
