is it possible to buy just the iphone at the att store and not have to have a contract?

i don't want a contract! i know that i could buy an iPhone unlock software for it.. would that work if i just bought the phone from att and then i could you use the software to make it unlocked..??

no, you must buy a contract to unlock it, but when the contract is over of transferred to another phone, the iPhone stays unlocked and usable.

Just buy one that is professionally unlocked on eBay. Much easier! And, less expensive.
