I have been tested 5 times for herpes, Never has it been positive. My girlfriend just had her baby and within the last nine months im the only one she has had sex with. She had an outbreak this morning at 3 and went to the doctor at 830. she was tested many times because of her pregnancy. Is it possible that I carry the herpes virus and it not show up in my blood test?? I have never had an outbreak ever? I sound like a liar to my girlfriend and i need answers fast.

I understand the blood tests are not amazingly accurate. They don't even bother with them over here in the uk. So as far as I'm aware, you might have it and be testing negative for it anyway, but I might be wrong though.

Herpes can be spread from one part of the body to another during an outbreak.
Therefore, it is important not to touch the eyes or mouth after touching the blisters or ulcers.
Thorough hand washing is a must during outbreaks.
Clothing that comes in contact with ulcers should not be shared with others.

Your wife could have come in contact with the virus (cold sores on the mouth can be spread to the sexual organs through oral sex).
In no way am I saying your wife has cheated (but only she would be the one to know the truth), but even if you are the only one she has had intercourse with it is possible for her to catch this. Touching a cold sore and not washing hands, through clothes that are infected.

the herpes virus doesn't live in the blood stream, it lives in the nervous system, so yes, it's possible to have it and it will not show up on blood tests, especially if it is dormant. Most people get the diagnosis when they have their first outbreak of blisters and the wounds are cultured directly.
