Is it possible that the US Army used soldiers to test drugs at Edgegood Arsenal...

...Maryland in 1966? Ok, first my grandfather who is my favorite grandparent always loved to tell me storeis about his military service. He was "drafted". That means he was required to involuntarily serve in the Armed Forces which was common back then. Over the years he has "recycled" the same stories over and over again and sometimes the details change. I never ask him why the stories change because he is my grandfather and I love him and would NEVER imply any disrespect to him. Nevertheless, because his "war stories" do change in the details I do sometimes doubt them. He went to Vietnam and got a Purple Heart for his service.

He tell me that when he was at a base in the USA after training he got involved in a bizarre traffic accident where his Company Commander overturned a military truck while driving it. He apparently as the Private in the mix was supposed to drive the vehicle but the Company Commander wanted driving practice so asked my grandfather to drive. My grandfather did not want him to drive because he signed out for the vehicle and was responsible for it but his commander was an officer and my grandfather was a private. HIs commander apparently needed LOTS OF DRIVING PRACTICE lol lol because he was driving too fast and overturned the vehicle. Anyway that resulted in the commander asking my grandfather to lie to the MPs and tell them under penalty of perjury that he drove. He did that went to the hospital for medical treatment and x-rays then released back to his unit. The officer (second in command) for the unit saw the commander driving away and reported to the higher authorities what really happened.

As a result of all this he said that they apparently wanted to get rid of my grandfather because he made a officer look bad and decided to send him to Edgegood Arsenal for "chemical warfare" training. He found out later in life that they were giving massive doses of LSD (an illegal drug similar to methampohetamine) that caused people to hullicinate. These soldier victims were given this drug and the researchers watched their reactions. He said that he learned that many of them were unable to funcition in society later in life and now receive benefits from the Veterans Administration. He said that about this time some Orders were given him sending him to Vietnam and this cancelled these Orders. Is this accurate? Its hard to believe that our government was doing this misconduct against its own soldiers. Oh, I heard this story before (lots of times) but my grandpa likes to e-mail me at work like my husband does too lol lol) and so since we have the internet and I'm taking a small break from work lol lol I decided to ask on Yahoo in the military category.
