...what will my experience do for me? I am currently a 68W in the U.S. Army, and I'm seriously considering not reenlisting, but getting out completely, and enlisting into the Navy to be a corpsman. I have found over the years working with FMF Corpsman (even taking, and passing the FMF board) and cross training with these outstanding medical professionals, that I would like to join their ranks. I have heard scuttlebutt about the military not letting prior service reenlist into sister services due to overstrength recruiting and retention in all the services.
Bottom line, I would rather be an FMF Corpsman (yes I know the requirements and the stressfull qualifications to get there) than an Army medic. My experience in the Army as a 68W has been far less than impressive, due to the fact that a 68W has such a wide scope, from clinical to combat arms support. The DA in all of its wisdom has decided to continuously place me, a healthy, physically fit, motivated young medic, in clinical environments, while my ( no offense) "less qualified" brethren are stuck out kicking in doors with the infantry when they are struggling to pass PT tests, and actually hate life as a line medic.
The best part of my career, the most experience, and the best people I worked with, were all in 29 Palms CA, with the 1/7 Marines and the Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen. I would like to join a society that appreciates their hard charging medics, and that offers a more promising future for the medics that WANT to be with the grunts.
