Is it okay to put a Beta Fish in a fish bowl?

Okay so I already have two gold fish in a bowl, and I've been told that their dying. I feel really bad for them because I don't know what to do for them.:( So if I can save them that would be great, and I could get a beta, of course I know that the beta would need its own space and I could put the gold fish elsewhere. But I wanted to know before I felt guilty about hurting another fish, if its okay to put a beta in a 1 gallon fish bowl?

Get your gold fish a TANK
Goldfish BOWLS restrict air at the surface and leave hardly any oxygen for the fish inside of it. PLUS you are supposed to clean the bowl every 2-3 days to reduce the lack of oxygen
Goldfish bowls are a pointless thing to own so buy a tank and your goldfish should be fine
Oh and for the BETA they like small places because they live in puddles in the wild, that and in warm climates so they need a heater to so NO you could not keep a beta in the 1 gallon fish bowl.
Good Luck!

Your goldfish are dying because you're jailing them in a crappy little bowl. Get them in a 20-30 gallon properly cycled tank and they just might live 25 or more years, like they are meant to!
If you can't do that, give them to someone who can, or surrender them to the fish store, if they will take them.
Put a Betta in that bowl, and you will have the same problem. Bowls are great for flowers or candy, not for fish. A Betta requires no less than a 2.5 gallon tank, with a heater and gentle filter. A 5 gallon is even better.
Go to a book store or library and get some beginner's books on aquarium keeping, goldfish, and Bettas. You have a whole lot to learn about keeping fish.

First of all the gold fish aren't going to thrive in a bowl and may be why they're going on you. They need a 30 gallon tank (20 for the first, 10 for each additional fish)

As for whether you can have the Betta in a bowl, depends on the bowl and what equipment or effort you're going to put into it.

I would go no less than 2 gallons and that is a minimum for a Betta. 5 would be much better. Betta are tropical (http://www.climate-charts.com/Locations/... and as such need to be kept in a room that gets a constant 75-80 degrees of temp...or better yet, get a micro heater (petco sells one for around $12).

Contrary to popular belief, Betta need clean water. The water they are found in the wild may be brown from tannin, but it is still clean and well oxygenated and as such they need it in their tank as well. A filter with a low flow (Betta aren't usually happy with strong current) is needed unless you are willing to do 50%-75% water changes twice per week. A good filter means you only have to do 25% once per week

So if you get a filter and a heater and the bowl is 2 gallons (preferably 5 or more) you can use the bowl for the Betta.

Otherwise get a 5 gallon for the Betta and get a 30 for the goldfish.

yes it actually would be fine in it. if you buy betas remember to buy only one or buy a tank with dividers for two betas no matter what gender.

Nope.

1 Betta needs at least a 2.5 gallon tank with a filter and heater.

2 Goldfish need at least a 30 gallon tank with a filter.

But it's good that you're caring about your fish!

Yes, beta fish do not need a filter, but, they MUST be in their own bowl. beta fish are fighting and aggressive fish, therefore they will attack any other fish that is near it. I own a beta fish myself and I recommend buying rocks and some sort of live or fake plant. (live plants are good for the fish, but they are harder to take care of). You should also purchase a water clarifying solution that is made especially for fish.

I recommend going to a Petsmart or Petsco and speaking to the fish people there...

hope this was helpful

:)
