Is it okay to practice on sprinting half of the week, and long distance the other half?

Or is it okay to switch from one to the other on a schedule, I feel like I'm missing out when I set myself for one track event. Im a beginner, thanks for answering if you do. I like to do the 200 and 100, but I like to jog 4 laps. I started on Monday. Also is it good to drink powerade, I quit drinking soda, I drink water most of the time now. Also, should I run on the weekends? I really just want to get fit and able to run the 300, I dont plan on being an olympian runner or anything I just want excercise and improvement. Also Im 14, how many crunches should I be able to do? Also how should I improve my upper body ex: weights? techniques?, how much and how often? Thanks!
