my 7 day old son wont sleep at night. The car seat puts him to sleep as soon as he's in it, only he wakes as soon as you take him out. So is it okay to leave him in it at night?

I have read that this is fine for newborns. Mine slept in his infant swing many nights when he was really little. I think pretty much anything goes for the first month or two when it comes to sleeping at night. Of course, you should make sure the car seat is somewhere safe and can't be knocked over or anything.

Been there, done that. Those endless rides in a car with a colic baby...I wouldn't dare try to move him after he finally fell asleep. Sure it is fine. He isn't going anywhere! My son wouldn't sleep in his crib or play yard more than 5-15 minutes the first few nights. Slowly he got used to them and at 2 weeks he was sleeping in his crib 3-4 hours at a time. I wouldn't make it a habit for him sleeping in the car seat but a mom's gotta get some rest!

When my daughter was newborn there were several nights that she slept in her carseat because it was the only place she would sleep. I also have friends who let their baby sleep in a car seat. I think it's the closeness of the carseat that baby's like so much because it reminds them of the womb. I don't see any problem with letting your son sleep in his carseat.
