Is it okay to blackmail a blackmailer? I have her attempt to b.m. me in writing.?

My administrator wrote me a letter the day after she fired me. Here is the text of it: "It occurred to me after our meeting that at some point we will talk to parents about this situation. I think we could best support you if we were free to give you a good reference for future employment.

So I'm thinking that it doesn't have to be described as a "firring" situation but a mutual agreement for what is best for now. I honestly did feel that way as it turned out even though I initiated it."

I'm disgusted; not hurt. I've worked very hard for this school for 8 years, with nary a complaint about my work until 4 months ago! I'm trying to find out if this is illegal; I know that it's unethical.

What I want to know is: what do you think of me saying something like: I'd like half of my salary as severance. I think I could best help the school if I felt free to keep your e-mail out of the inboxes of every parent at the school. (Our school charges $7K per child per year. I think quite a few parents would be unhappy to know that their child's teacher is being treated this way, much less how the admin is trying to manipulate them.)

What do you think? I'm asking because I'm having a hard time getting in to see a lawyer quickly enough! Thanks for whatever you've got to share.
