Is it okay for betta fish to chew on betta bulbs?

I just got betta bulbs for my betta's fish tank and he seems to chew on them a bit. Is this normal? He's only done it once so far, so maybe he was just checking it out, but I want to be cautious about it.

it is normal but if he starts to disintegrate them then take them out.
