I've been riding my exercise bike for about 2 years mostly everyday, over these 2 years I really haven't pushed my body too much, I really just wanted to lost some weight which I did do. But now I'd like to make the push and try and work my body some more. So I was on my bike today and I decided to do the pattern of sprinting 1 minute and going slow the next minute and just keep doing that. I do that on medium tension for 5 minutes, then I switch to maximum tension for 5 minutes then rest for about 00:30s - 01:00m, hopefully that's ok. But my main concern when doing this is that when I do maximum tension my legs do feel painful at about the 40 second mark when sprinting, but as soon as I goto to the walking pace - they're fine again. I do feel the pain a bit right at the end of the medium tension sprint, but I guess as that's the end it shouldn't be a problem.
Basically I was wondering if this was ok? I was thinking maybe it's a good thing so then the legs will be able to handle such difficulty in the future? Or is it bad that they hurt?
The area in which they hurt are two muscles either side of the kneecap. Just below the Rectus Femoris (Or are part of the Rectus Femoris - there should be a diagram of the body on google if you're not too sure where it is) on the front of the legs.
The legs are tired afterwards but they're ok after that, but I've always had that.
So if it's not ok, should I just stick to a lower tension, one that doesn't make them hurt as much (or at all)?
Thanks a lot.
