Is it normal for some doctor's offices to be slow about giving you a prescription?

The reason I'm asking this is because I am pretty much on the edge of switching doctors right now. Every time I call in for a Rx it usually takes 2 days. I had to make an appointment today to get my adderal and I get the regular tablets, not the extended release. When I took my Rx to the pharmacy the dr had written it for extended release so I called back to the drs office and told them that I needed the correct Rx faxed over. (This was about 3 PM). I called back to the pharmacy after 5:00 knowing that my Rx was there and they had not faxed it over yet. They had 2 whole hours and the thing is I made an appt specifically for that and they would not correct it the same day. I would just like to get some other peoples experiences and input
