Is it normal for groomers to put puppies or dogs in kennels while they wait to

be groomed? I took my 4 month old shih tzu puppy to the groomer's at Petsmart for the very first time today.


They told me that I could come back in 3-4 hours. They also said that my puppy will be inside a kennel while waiting for his turn to be groomed.


Is that normal? Is that safe?
Can other dogs harm him while inside the kennel?

I am currently waiting for their call. He's still at Petsmart, and I have about 2 hours more to go...

Should I worry?


PS: My puppy is in a Puppy training/obedience class. When it comes to puppy playtime, he gets very scared of other dogs. But he's only afraid to be around other dogs and animals.
He's not afraid of humans; he LOVES meeting new people.

*This is my first time having a pet. Please don't give rude comments. I'm just a bit worried because it's my first time leaving my puppy to people I barely know.

And yes, he is up to date with all his shots, esp Parvo
 
I think they meant he would be in his own personal kennel/crate so yes, he is safe from other dogs and it's completely normal.

Perfectly safe. This is what they dog at all dog groomers. They each have their own individual kennel. This only thing I will say, is that I hope you had your pup vaccinated for Kennel Cough.
 
I'd rather see your question that displays your concern for your dog than most of the other babble some folks ask. I'm glad you care about your dog.

Your dog will not be put in an enclosure with other dogs, so they cannot harm him. Some groomers, usually private groomers with smaller, more individual shops, will work on just one dog from the time it arrives until it is done and waiting to go home. Even these will put a dog in a crate or kennel to keep it safe until it's owner arrives to pick it up. Other, busier shops have a few dogs at a time and keep them in crates or kennels when not working on them. As long as you meet and are comfortable with the groomer, you should be OK.
