I store it in the bottom of my wardrobe and always put the lens cap on it when I'm not using it, but is this necessary? When I put the lens cap on, I accidentally turn the lens a bit trying to get it on, is it okay not having the camera lens set to manual focus if the camera is OFF when trying to get the lens cap on, or will turning the end of the lens when the camera is on auto focus, even when it's off, damage the lens?
And even if I have the lens set to auto focus, turning it so frequently trying to get the lens cap on may damage it in the future? Is just leaving in at the bottom of my wardrobe with no lens cap on it bad for the lens?
My model is Canon EOS 1000D with the kit lens by the way.
