to pep-boys repair shop? we had our ford explorer towed to a ford repair store thinking it was a key fob problem, now he wants to charge us over $1,000 for a new fuel pump, would it be worth towing to another repair place like pep-boys or somewhere like that? should it be a much better value. we are in orlando, florida

Absolutely, $1,000 for a fuel pump is outrageous.

Here's the bad news, I've been living in Orlando for 5 years and still haven't been able to find a decent mechanic. Just pick one and cross your fingers. Do call around now that you know what it needs and get estimates from different shops though.

Here's a couple to stay away from:
Expert car care in Oviedo
Aamco, anywhere
Advanced Car Care, inc, Altamonte Springs
Riker's Automotive--$91 estimate fee that's not applicable to repairs
I'm still looking for a decent independent shop so maybe a brand name, like pepboys, is the best, halfway safe, bet.

use ur phone... make sum calls... call local pepboys... and other repair shops....also need to see if it will cost u more or less if u purchase ur own fuel pump from a parts house .....then calculate tow bill+ fuel pump price+ other shop labor ... andgo from there... good luck....

o btw ask teh ford shop wile ur there if theres a recall on the fuel pump... i doubt it but worth asking... they WONT tell u unless u ask...... ive seen ppl pay for ovehaul work that was covered by recall warranty and the shop say nothing... they found out later....
