It seems as if we never would have arrived at this point in time if the universe was infinitely old. The Big Bang created not only energy and matter, but also time and space, so there was no time before the Big Bang. It's possible that the BB was preceded by the Big Crunch of a previous incarnation of the universe. The universe may go in cycles ... Big Bang ... Expansion ... Contraction ... Big Crunch ... repeat the process. However, was there an original BB? What sort of force would be needed to initiate it? Whatever it was, it must have transcended time and space, and it couldn't have been composed of matter. Any thoughts? This is a pretty big subject for me. Thanks.
