My husband just got home from a 20 hour shift. He is an assistant manager at a restaurant and his general manager told him he can not leave until he got don't what she wanted him to do for their cleaning audit which is later today. He doesn't get a break to eat. He has high blood pressure and diabetes and they are aware of this but don't care about his health.
His general manager waits until the day before the audit to make him do work that the hourly employees should be taking care of but she doesn't want to pay anyone to work to do what needs done. He is physically exhausted, mentally screwed up right now because this isn't the only time he gets screwed over because of her. Everyday he works at least 12-14 hours. He gets paid for 10hrs. His gm and other manager only pull 12-14 hr days maybe once a week or once every two weeks. It's not right. Best part of this is my husband is 23 years old and has these health problems and he gets taken advantage of because of it. Other non related things that proves he is being taken advantage of is that he is the only one who ever has to run to one of the other loccations all over our area to pick up things they run out of thus wasting gas and causing him to have to constantly put gas in the car. We spend a lot of money on gas in the 2 weeks between pays.
His hourly breakdown for his salary is about $11-$12 an hour so today he was making about $6 an hour since he's not getting paid for te extra 10 hours he put in. Is there anything legally he can do? I know probably not but being forced to because she can't do her job sounds a little insane to me. He is getting fed up and so am I. It really takes a toll on him. He is passed out on the floor right now. Didn't even change his clothes. I just feel so bad for him and want to help put an end to this.
When he has a staff who wants to quit because of this woman you know it's bad. And I'm talking 25-30 year employees.
We live in the state of pennsylvania.
I am sure he doesn't eat he rarely gets the chance to sit down and eat because there's always work to be done. It's a busy restaurant so he's lucky if he can even go to the restroom. He didn't tell me out of anger I can tell when he almost passed out the other day when he came home from work.
