My question involves towing laws for the State of California
I parked my car at my apartment complex and their horrible policy is that one car is assigned one parking spot. One of my house mates had already claimed the spot so I would have to look for open parking spots. However, I had parked at someones assigned parking space for a couple of hours at most and did not have the time to move my car, because I had classes all day (I take the bus to the university I attend). When I got home and was on my way to my boyfriend's house, I found out my car was missing. It wasn't until I called the police that I found out it had been towed. I was not issued any warning or anything of that sort. Is that legal for the apartment to do? My window looks out to the parking lots and I never see a car that parks there. Also, they towed my car in a different city, about 9 miles away, and they charged me for the mileage when there was a towing company just 2 miles from my city. It was towed on a Friday so I got charged "overnight" and some other fees that totaled up to $280. This is practically my rent money! I am a struggling college student dealing with the 40% increase at my current UC. Can anybody help me with this issue?
