Is it just me? or are AMC jeeps (pre 1987) unreliable and costly to maintain?

I bought a 1986 jeep cherokee shortly after new years. It has been the worst vehicle I've driven by far! The slave cylinder went out, so I had to have that fixed. I've had both batter terminals replaced, I replaced my own starter, the dash has a short and comes on about 50/50, sometimes the horn doesn't work, sometimes I have to "lurch start" it (its a manual-put it in gear and start it w/o clutch and it usually fires up). As some of you already know, in 86 jeep was still owned by AMC(American Motor Company). It has a gm (yes jm) 2.8 v6 and 5spd manual trans. Oh, speaking of manual, I think my clutch might need replacing soon. My friend in california had an 84 wagoneer and he said it was riddled with electrical problems. Blew fuses right and left and signals never worked. I wish I had done my research and gotten a 4.0 I6
